HMD Global keeps its word and prepares updates for the latest version of Android with all your smartphones. Most manufacturers of Android devices take care of current flagship updates, while the so-called average students are treated as minor. Flagship Nokia 8 got an update to Android Oreo 8.1 months ago. Now the same version of the system goes to the owners of Nokia 5 and the original Nokia 6 from 2017.

Nokia 6 was the debut Android smartphone from HMD Global. This device appeared on the market a year ago and was positively received. Therefore, the Finns decided to refresh this model and during the MWC 2018 fairs, Nokia 6 (2018) was presented. However, this model will appear on the market next month. Therefore, I do not understand how some news portals have reported that the update to Android 8.1 Oreo was released for this year’s version of Nokia 6. In the source materials it is clearly stated that the update has been prepared for models TA-1021 and TA-1025. It is distributed via the OTA (Over The Air) system, ie via updates downloaded via Wi-Fi.

Android 8.1 Oreo for Nokia 5 and 6 is currently available in several countries

The update is currently available in India and it should soon appear in other countries as well. The package for Nokia 5 weighs 866.7 MB, and in the case of Nokia 6 it is 933.8 MB. That’s why the system forces it to download using Wi-Fi. Android Oreo 8.1 prepared by HMD Global has several improvements, including these are:

  • Battery Saving Navigation Buttons,
  • Revamped Power Menu,
  • New Settings Menu,
  • Bluetooth Battery Percentage.

In addition, March security updates will be installed.
