People who are constantly monitoring the market of mobile devices, are well aware that Apple devices are slightly backward in terms of wireless solutions. This is confirmed by further reports from the industry. Fast Company journal refers here to informants who know Apple’s plans. They claim that the iPhone with the 5G modem will appear in 2020. Intel is blamed for this state of affairs.
Apple has a fairly hard nut to crack. On the one hand, the giant from Cupertino tries to become independent of Qualcomm, and on the other, Intel is behind the competitor. Fast Company’s informers claim that Apple representatives were not satisfied when they learned the release date of the Intel 5G modem. This is the 8161 chip, which will appear in 2020. On the other hand, producers of Android smartphones who use Qualcomm chipsets have announced the appearance of 5G smartphones in 2019. This means that Apple will be left behind competitors’ smartphones again. However, is this a reason to complain?
iPhone with 5G network support in 2020 is not a surprise
People who point Apple backward technology must take into account one more factor. This is the rate of development of the mobile networks of individual operators. New LTE-Advanced features (e.g. 4×4 MIMO or 256QAM modulation) always first appear in Android smartphones. Apple, on the other hand, introduces these solutions to iPhones even with a one-year delay. However, Apple customers do not mind, because mobile carriers need some time to modernize their base stations. It is these 6 – 12 months that are needed so that the new solution can be implemented in the network throughout the country. However, there is also the other side of the coin.
With us it is not visible yet. However, in countries such as the United States, South Korea, Japan or Australia, operators are strongly promoting new technology. We are dealing here with a situation that can be described in two words: “5G race”. The competing telecoms are fighting for the title of the first operator who will start to provide its services using the new generation network. That is why the first 5G networks will be launched in 2019. And that means that some customers will decide to exchange their smartphones. For obvious reasons, they will not choose any of next year’s iPhones. Marketers of the competition (i.e. Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and others) will definitely take the opportunity to dope Californians.
