The French company Qarnot took heart to the point that modern computers equipped with multi-core processors are small heaters. Therefore, it has prepared quite specific servers called Q.rad, which, in addition to performing calculations, plays the role of a radiator and maintain the temperature at a given level in the room. Recently, the company decided to use AMD Ryzen PRO family processors in Q.rad servers, which replaced Intel Core i7 units. However, this does not mean that the French somehow defraud AMD processors.
Computer owners have long noticed that their devices emit a lot of heat. This fact is especially appreciated by players who can heat radiators a little bit in the winter. However, Qarnot approached this topic in a professional manner. Q.rad servers, in addition to 3 AMD Ryzen processors, also have a thermostat. Thanks to this, the computer software controls its operation in such a way that the temperature set by the user is obtained in the room. The device itself is stylized for a modern-looking radiator, which can also be used as a wireless smartphone charger. In addition, the manufacturer has installed a CO2 sensor, which will tell you when we should ventilate a flat or office.
Q.rad servers with AMD Ryzen processors are a free source of heat
An intelligent heater, or server, has an application that monitors the amount of electricity consumed, and the company automatically reimburses its costs. Thanks to this, we have free thermal energy. What is the whole business about? The details are not fully known, however, the information posted on the manufacturer’s website repeats the secret. Q.rad servers are connected to a cloud that performs calculations, so they must also be connected to the Internet. As a result, Qarnot gains lower costs associated with maintaining the server room. The environment also benefits the entire interest. According to the manufacturer’s assurances, the carbon footprint caused by Q.rad server operation is 78% lower than that generated by the traditional heating source and the data center performing the cloud tasks.
AMD fans should not feel offended that the Ryzen PRO processors are reduced to the role of a heater. The company Qarnot notes that the decision to change the processors used in Q.rad servers was not dictated by the amount of heat generated. It turns out that the AMD Ryzen processors have provided a performance increase of 30% – 45% compared to the previously used Core i7. The manufacturer also thinks about using a similar approach with boilers and heating systems used in swimming pools.
