I think that this is the last nail in the coffin of BlackBerry OS. However, this decision did not surprise me, because even BlackBerry has decided to use Android as an operating system for their smartphones. BlackBerry OS is currently used only on 0.92% smartphones, so this decision is obvious…

The latest smartphone from BlackBerry, i.e. BlackBerry Priv, has Android operating on board and Marshmallow update is also expected. In my opinion, there is no reason for anyone to maintenance and provide update for BlackBerry OS applications. Some time ago this mobile operating system was very popular and used by many corporate customers. However, nowadays this mobile OS is used by less than 1% of active online mobile users (remember that statistics from StatCounter are based on page views). Therefore, Mark Zuckerberg’s consortium will not be any longer develop BlackBerry OS version of their application for Facebook. Some time ago they did the same with WhatsApp. However, it does not mean that BlackBerry users will be banned by Facebook. They will still be able to use this service, but they will have the mobile website in order to do this.
