Reliance Jio is very popular new mobile carrier in India thanks to their attractive offer. They are also the first operator who offers all services, i.e. mobile Internet, voice calls and SMS via 4G LTE network only. It means that Reliance does not have a single 3G or 2G mobile tower and the voice calls are realized thanks to VoLTE solution. However, they have also a lot of issues with quality of service.
Reliance claims that practically all call drops are because of overloaded interconnection points with other carriers networks. In my opinion, Reliance is not without fault and they have to invest in their infrastructure in order to be able handle the traffic generated by an enormous number of customers. Therefore, they have committed to install 45 000 mobile towers in the next 6 months. However, this is not the end of investments, because Reliance is going to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in next 4 years.
These informations about Reliance’s investments are official.
This promise was made during the meeting with Manoj Sinha – Telecom Minister. According to the source, Reliance has told to minister that they have already invested Rs 1.6 lakh crore in their 4G LTE network. Currently, the Jio has 2.82 lakh base stations in the whole country what covers 18 000 cities and 2 lakh villages. Reliance claims that they do everything what is in their power to provide good customer experience, but they do not have influence on availability of interconnection points with Airtel, Vodafone and Idea networks. In my opinion all our mobile carriers (including Reliance) were surprised by such interest in Jio offer and no one has expected that Reliance users will generate so high traffic. Remember, that you can always test the speed of your mobile Internet connection using our application.
