It is not the hottest news, but I would like to share with you my thoughts on this topic. What happened? Thee days ago it was announced that Nokia agreed to sell HERE to automotive industry for EUR 2.8 billion (USD 3 billion). Who has bought it? AUDI AG, BMW Group and Daimler AG. Each of the three shareholders of the consortium has equal shares. What does it mean? Why has Nokia sold such promising business?
The official information from Nokia says that they have completed next stage of transformation. What does it mean? Nokia wants to focus on two remaining business: Nokia Networks and Nokia Technologies. So, they need money for investments 🙂 Is this a good direction? It is widely known that it is better to focus on one thing and do it well. Why does it mean for us (end-users)? Probably, we will not see Nokia’s products in shops. Why? Because Nokia provides solutions for our mobile Internet providers (and not only). I hope that thanks to this strategy we will able to use more stable and faster mobile networks!
What does it mean for automotive market? They have just bought quite good product, which their users (drivers) already know. I think that they will able to provide better (maybe cheaper) offer. I am pretty sure that guys (and girls) from automotive business will improve HERE maps. They know best the needs of drivers.
